When actually investing those savings, many take the path of least resistance and only invest in whichever portfolios of stocks and mutual funds their bank advisor recommends. However, there are a few reasons why this is not only inadvisable, but impossible:<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-649efd6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"649efd6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1. With the partial exception of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/revenue-agency\/services\/tax\/individuals\/topics\/rrsps-related-plans\/what-home-buyers-plan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> Home Buyer\u2019s Plan<\/a> for first-time home buyers (only pertaining to a home\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 to live in), you cannot use an RRSP (or any registered funds) to directly purchase a home or rental\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 property.<\/p><p>2. If your priority is growth over time (versus owning a home to live in), there are far superior investment\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 options available as opposed to putting all of your savings into a down payment and a mortgage.<\/p><p>3. It is far safer, easier, and more manageable <span style=\"font-weight: 600;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/env-equitonnew-equitonpr.kinsta.cloud\/blogs\/the-biggest-differences-between-buying-an-investment-property-and-buying-a-home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to invest in real estate indirectly instead of becoming a\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 landlord yourself<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4be84d4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4be84d4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since the savings in your RRSPs and TFSA are usually tax exempt while the funds remain in those plans, that money can\u2019t be used for just anything.
